The Role
Whistle Ignite, part of the Whistle Group, is seeking a highly capable and confident PR practitioner to take up a central role as one of the company’s lead account managers handling a portfolio of technology accounts.
We’re based in the fizzing, bubbling cauldron of tech innovation in Oxford, where world-class IP spills out of university research. And as a young company, we’re making a name for ourselves as a go-to consultancy for scaling companies on the move.
Our clients are endlessly fascinating, helping to electrify the world, power it with nuclear fusion tech or harnessing AI and quantum computing to power new, exponential ways of doing things.
We want to find somebody excited about trailblazing these frankly amazing companies. But you’ll also need some old school skill sets including competence and enthusiasm to pitch media, knowing how to find a story amid piles of complicated tech and highly capable writing and editorial skills – from drafting long form white papers to storyboarding a social video.
You might be a more experienced AE looking to take a step up, or an AM who wants to broaden their skill set. As we’re small and growing, you can have an transformative impact on our business as an individual. And if you’re on it, we’ll willingly pass on responsibility and rewards, so as much as deliver five star service to our lovely clients, you’ll have the chance to influence our growth – whether business management, client growth, talent and team leadership or helping to evangelise about the agency’s capabilities.
About Whistle Group
The Whistle Group is made up of two UK-based agencies. Whistle Agency is an expert marketing services and sponsorship business with extensive experience in the automotive and sport sectors, working in areas such as Formula 1. Whistle Ignite is a strategic PR consultancy with expertise in technology.
We’re a digitally-powered, creatively-inspired set of consultancies that assist companies and their investors to grow and thrive. We work with founders and their start-ups through to international corporations.
Ignite is headquartered in ultra-modern offices in the heart of the university city of Oxford and we provide press, social media, internal comms and investor relations to a wide variety of clients developing transformative next-gen technologies.
As part of Whistle’s group structure, Ignite have access to centralised services such as design and identity as well as a wider community of colleagues with a variety of complementary skill sets. The group works on a hybrid basis with a weekly office day for all staff. Outside of the weekly office day, staff are welcome to work from company offices or at home as suits.
About You
You’ll be a hybrid leader and doer, smart but enthusiastic and motivated in equal measure. You’ll also be happy to roll your sleeves up and get stuck into a little bit of everything. Passion for tech and its capacity to solve intractable problems would definitely form part of the match criteria for us – and for that reason, your most likely highly enquiring and have a sense of the word beyond. Equally, you will have some unhealthy obsession with some part of the media landscape – rolling news junkies, staunch defenders of the BBC charter or social media obsessives are welcome in equal measure.
You’ll bring with you knowledge of the tech space – ideally the enterprise rather than consumer markets, but a strong contact book of technology media and with it some first-hand agency experience. You’ll be able to write persuasively and be happy on the end of a phone pitching journalists.
It’s our gameplan that this new AM will build a team in time, so aspiration to lead and develop a team would be no bad thing.
